none of these characters are actually, objectively, wholly good, and that’s part of the point.Recommended Dimensions: 7632 x 6480 pixels but the show is only really about good vs bad as far as that limited perspective holds, and the audience isn’t really supposed to think of them that way. So in that sense, yes the abbotts are the good guys, and the tillersons the bad, because that’s how royal thinks of them. of course he is no one ever thinks of themselves as the bad guy, even if they’re doing bad things, because any bad things are done with good reason. Since royal is our way into the show, not anyone else, and because he personally believes that he is doing the right thing in protecting his land and in protecting his family both from the consequences of perry’s actions and from knowledge of the hole, he is painting himself as the “good guy” in this story. if it were joy’s, we’d be looking at a woman valiantly trying to solve a murder and being thwarted by the perpetrators at every turn. if it were autumn’s pov, maybe it would be, idk, a psychological horror, where she bears witness to royal’s descent into madness and his suspicion and mistreatment of her as part of that. if we were coming at it from any of the tillersons’ pov, it might still be an inter-family drama, but one where the abbotts are painted as being in the wrong for refusing to give up land that doesn’t actually belong to them.
the tillersons are the aggressors, autumn is the dangerous wild card, joy is the thorn in his side, etc., all because that is how royal sees them. I think the key to that discussion is remembering that royal is clearly the main character, and so the show is entirely colored by his pov. Am I missing something? Asked by Anonymous
but Perry literally murdered someone and his family is helping him cover it up! Both families appear to be troubled and flawed and I have a hard time looking at this as good vs. Sure, Trevor may have had anger issues when drunk and Wayne wants to take their west pasture. I keep reading on social media how the Abbotts are the "good guys" and the Tillersons are the "bad guys" which is not how I see it. Hi! Wanted to get your take on something on Outer Range.
